Café with a long-term vision and client over 20 years

The VIERNULVIER café in the Vooruit is halfway between the hall of a train station, a co-working space, a music café and a brasserie. There's a va-et-vient of sorts and if there's a buzz somewhere in Ghent, it's in the café of the famous arts centre.

The VIERNULVIER café in the Vooruit is halfway between the hall of a train station, a co-working space, a music café and a brasserie. There’s a va-et-vient of sorts and if there’s a buzz somewhere in Ghent, it’s in the café of the famous arts centre.

We have a chat with Klaas Ramakers, the café’s coordinator. Because Oxfam coffee, tea and accessories have been on the menu there for 20 years. Klaas: “VIERNULVIER follows the LEF philosophy: Local, Ecological, Fair trade. A fair price for the producer and quality for the consumer, that’s what we’re all about. Like Oxfam, we want to send a clear message: we do not support the ‘race to the bottom’, but think long-term and therefore want to tell a sustainable story.” Finally on the map, and also Klaas’ sweet sin: “Brown rum. You can wake me up for that. And fondant chocolate.”

We want to send a clear message and think ahead
