The professionally led cooperative federation groups 38 coffee-producing cooperatives from the region surrounding Estel\u00ed and Palacag\u00fcina in Nicaragua. Since 1993 the organisation has given approximately 2,700 farming families the opportunity to sell their coffee around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organisation is <strong>100% fair trade<\/strong>. What\u2019s more, half of the coffee is certified <strong>organic<\/strong>. Each year the organisation exports 70,000 69-kilo sacks of fair-trade coffee.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fair-trade coffee accelerates development in Nicaragua<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Prodecoop collects the fair-trade coffee from its member cooperatives, prepares it for <strong>export<\/strong> and then <strong>sells <\/strong>it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to this, it arranges <strong>training courses<\/strong> and <strong>technical assistance<\/strong> for its members. Prodecoop also provides <strong>loans<\/strong> and <strong>legal advice<\/strong> to members. Additional investments are made possible by the fair trade premium, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>projects to improve the quality of the coffee;<\/li><li>support for coffee growers who make the switch to organic production methods both in terms of knowledge and tools;<\/li><li>educational grants for the children of coffee producers;<\/li><li>projects on income diversification and food security;<\/li><li>access to medical care and prevention of cervical cancer;<\/li><li>capacity building of women and children on various topics.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>Only by organising ourselves through Prodecoop can we tackle the challenges we currently face.
